Where the Name Dutch Treat Come from?

We don’t know exactly where its prevalence is, nevertheless there are a variety of sources referring to Vancouver Island as its originality. There are 2 staple strains known as the parents of Dutch Treat strain. These are Northern Lights( a heavy indica) and Haze ( a bold sativa with fine and thin buds). However, these 2 strains aren’t genetically analyzed so as to be sure about where Dutch Treat came to be. However, it’s now popular in Amsterdam.

Literally Dutch Treat means that you pay for your own share in a bill. It was first grown in America and gradually became a widely popular staple in most coffeeshops in Netherland. Dutch Treat as also called Dutch Crunch is an indica-heavy hybrid. Other names are Dutch Strain or Dream Catcher Weed. It is grown originally in the pacific Northwest because many people believe that a person named Jordan of the Islands in Vancouver is the breeder of this and many other strains in 1992.

Dutch Treat Features

Buds of Dutch Treat are apparently more sativa, cone-shaped and the leaves are soft and not packed. The color of the leaves are dark green and its pistils are yellow which are covered by trichomes. It’s a subspecies of the cannabis plant having short stem, broad leaves. This strain is resistance to diseases such as viruses, insects, pests, spiders, bacteria and various weather conditions and  surprisingly mechanical damage. 

There are 3 main terpenes in Dutch Treat which are Terpinolene, Ocimene, and Myrcene. The combination of these 3 gives this strain a unique taste and aroma. However, the temperature outside should not exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit. In ideal condition for cultivation, Dutch Treat yields 4 to 8 ounces of flower. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for a Dutch Treat to flower indoors and if grown outdoors, last days of September is the time for its flower. 

As it grows very tall, it is not recommended for an amateur cultivator to grow it. Trim lower section of the plant. Don’t overfeed as it’s a low maintenance plant. There are some pointers in growing it which are watering schedule, digging, soil examinations, trimming leaves, air quality and light adjustment. Try to set up a hydroponic condition in which you can regulate the environment and not worry about spiders, insects, or other pests. In this situation, you will grow the Dutch Treat strain in water and minerals and not soil. It is suggested that farmers use clay pebbles to better keep the water. To grow this strain outdoors, you should use a fertilizer and organic soil.

Price of this strain’s seed is not that high because it is old and almost available for online shopping. In coffee shops located in Amsterdam, it costs about  $10 a gram. However, it is less expensive in dispensionaries; about $2 less. There are several staple strains as well as crossbreeds being retailed at dispensaries in all areas of Vancouver , British Columbia, Canada. 

Final Thoughts
